Open Innovation House, the home of EIT ICT Labs Helsinki Co-location Centre, celebrated yesterday its grand opening. The event gathered more than 300 persons, who were able to see inspiring demonstrations from the tenants and visit each organisations' offices.
Open Innovation House functions as a base and meeting venue for open innovation and collaborative creation. The purpose of the building is to promote the natural coming together of people and ideas and to create new collaborative and operating models. The building has plenty of spaces for public use and hosts shared activities between different groups. The facilities encourage active, mobile work and the use of space in the house is very effective.
Besides EIT ICT Labs the Open Innovation House houses the operations of Nokia Research Center, Wärtsilä Innovation Node, Helsinki Institute for Innovation and Technology HIIT, Aalto Science Institute, AppCampus and a number of start-up companies.
- Open Innovation House is the embodiment of the Aalto University ethos: it is a platform for collaborative creation, interaction and the sharing of ideas. I'm certain that this kind of open operating culture will bring Finland competitiveness and world-class expertise, said Aalto University President Tuula Teeri.
Markku Rauhamaa from Nokia Siemens Networks made public the Otaniemi Innovation Net, a 4G network built in the Open Innovation House. The network is open for other organisations in the house with the aim of creating network innovations and building exciting applications.
Marko Turpeinen, Director EIT ICT Labs Helsinki and host for the Grand Opening Event, felt confident that we are on the right track on further strengthening the position of Otaniemi as "the ICT innovation hotspot".
