100 students have started a two week entrepreneurial journey at EIT Digital Summer Schools in Paris, Trento and Stockholm this week. These programmes are designed with a strong Innovation & Entrepreneurship component in a learning-by-doing approach.
This year, EIT Digital will deliver Summer Schools in seven different locations in Europe providing meeting places for students, academics and business offering opportunities to get inspired and to be exposed to the latest developments in their field. Summer Schools are key element of the two-year EIT Digital Master School course for enrolled students, but a limited number of places are also available for students, researchers and those working in industry who want to spend two-weeks on an intensive course to hone both their technical knowledge and ability to innovate.
Summer Schools underway so far are:
Privacy, Security & Trust, Trento, June 26 – July 8
The theme of the Summer School is Security and Privacy in Digital Life. The main objectives are to demonstrate the importance of data security and privacy for ICT applications in everyday life and work and to highlight market need and business opportunities in this area. Students will also spend time learning how to transform their knowledge and creativity into innovative business ideas and concrete business proposals, and will be coached on how to pitch to potential investors. The programme also includes technical lectures by top international experts from both academia and industry and four use cases which students will be asked to respond to: e-ID provisioning and e-authentication, e-health, e-commerce, and mobile devices and systems.
Cyber-Physical Systems, Paris, June 27 – July 8
The Summer School Cyber Physical Systems (CPS) focuses on three areas, which are widely recognised as major future revenue drivers for Europe: autonomous driving, medical devices and smart cities. The programme focuses on the multi-disciplinary knowledge and skills required to operate within these areas. Students learn to apply state-of-the-art techniques and best practices in design, analysis and deployment of CPS. Course seminars, lectures and tutorials will be led by experts from the field and business coaching is provided throughout.
Future Cloud, Stockholm, June 27 – July 9
The Future Cloud Summer School is all about Big Data with a focus on business, value chains, technology, safety and security of the future cloud. This is introduced through lectures from leading researchers and practitioners from academia and industry. The students work in teams on challenges set by leading European companies and will compete in a business proposal competition. In addition, the programme includes a one-day Big Data seminar event focusing on cloud business and technology. The goal of this Summer School is to teach advanced topics related to algorithms and platforms for Big Data as well as to enhance the innovation and entrepreneurial awareness among students. The summer school covers both presentations by researchers on Big Data analytics and platforms as well as presentations by company experts on business models.
The other six Summer Schools start in July and August. The themes of the other Summer Schools are Future Networking Solutions (Stockholm), Health & Wellbeing (London and Eindhoven), Smart Energy Systems (Karlsruhe), Smart Spaces (Helsinki) and Urban Life & Mobility (Paris).
