Dr. Gian Mario Maggio has officially started on 1st January 2014 as the new Co-Location Centre Manager for the Italian Node of the EIT ICT Labs. 

Gian Mario’s background is in the field of ICT (Information and Communication Technologies), with focus on electronics and wireless communications (e.g. cognitive networks), and applications of ICT for addressing societal challenges (e.g. smart energy). His expertise includes strategic and technology foresighting as well as a thorough knowledge of the main European policies and funding schemes (e.g. H2020).

Gian Mario received a MSc Degree and a PhD Degree in Electronic Engineering from the Politecnico di Torino, Italy, and the University College Dublin, Ireland, in 1995 and 1999 respectively. He held visiting research positions at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, Lausanne (EPFL) and at the University of California, Berkeley (UCB). 

Gian Mario’s professional experience comprises both the private and public sector, including European institutions, the common denominator being research and innovation. Namely, he started his career as researcher at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD). Then, during the period 2000-04, he worked for STMicroelectronics in San Diego, California, and Geneva, Switzerland, while maintaining an affiliation as industry-university technical liaison with UCSD and EPFL, respectively. Afterwards, Gian Mario worked for CREATE-NET (Center for REsearch And Telecommunication Experimentation for NETworked communities), Trento, Italy, as Head of Communication & Network Technologies and Research Director. During the period 2008-10, he worked at the COST (European COoperation in Science & Technology) Office in Brussels, as Head of Cluster and responsible for the ICT Domain. Since 2012, he works for FBK (Fondazione Bruno Kessler) in Trento, Italy, and he is affiliated with Trento RISE, core partner of the EIT ICT Labs.
