Milan Satellite strengthens the Italian Node and offers an attractive location to all EIT Digital partners.
Milan is the second largest urban hub in Italy with over 4 million inhabitants in the metropolitan area.
Milan is considered to be a fertile ground for start-ups due to its standing as a port of entry to Italy and its strong university presence. Domestic and international ICT companies have premises in Milan contributing to the evolution of a vibrant ecosystem. It hosts the largest student population in technical disciplines.
Milan was the venue of the Universal EXPO 2015, which attracted a considerable amount of investment transforming the city into an ideal experiment and showcase arena for pioneering projects, with ICT being a key enabler for all innovation activities. The activities and investments linked to EXPO 2015 has left a footprint in the city that is outliving the event itself and will keep Milan at the forefront of urban life experimentation and innovation.
The Milan Satellite is active in research-driven innovation and is focusing on activities, among the others, in the areas of Digital Infrastructure and Digital Industry.
Milan is also the largest Italian hub for technical education through Politecnico di Milano and offers top-level incubator facilities for start-ups, such as the PoliHub.
Several EIT Digital Italy Partners have premises in Milan (e.g. Cefriel, CNR, Engineering, Politecnico di Milano, Reply, Siemens, STMicroelectronics, TIM) and some are co-located at the Satellite.
Satellite Co-Location Centre
The Satellite Co-Location Centre in Milan is a physical co-working venue within the premises at our partner Cefriel.
The Satellite premises are equipped with all the standard EIT Digital communications facilities, meeting rooms and space to accommodate research and innovation activities.

Cefriel can be easily reached by urban public transport, both by the underground (MM) lines and the surface transport network:
- By underground lilac line (MM5): 3 minutes walking from MM "Ponale".
- By bus, lines:

- By tram, line 31 - 250m
- By train, 1300m (stop “Greco Pirelli”)

Cefriel is located in the Bicocca district, in the north area of the city.
To reach Cefriel by car, from the Torino-Venezia motorway, take the "Milano - viale Zara" exit, towards Milano Centro; after the "Comune di Milano" sign, leave the StarTourist Hotel on your left, take Viale Sarca and drive on until you see n° 226.

Milan is a main node of Italian High Speed Trains ("Alta Velocità")
"Milano Centrale" and "Milano Garibaldi" are the main stations that are served by High Speed Trains and directly connected with Milan’s underground lines.
Milano Garibaldi is the most convenient railway station to reach Cefriel because you can than take the lilac underground line.
Arriving at Milano Garibaldi Railway Station, take the underground lilac line (line number 5) heading towards "Bignami", get off at "Ponale" (about 15 minutes travel) and you can reach Cefriel on foot in about 2 minutes. By taxi: about 15 minutes and 20 €.
The closest railway station is Milano Greco Pirelli (1,3Km).
