Nearly 40 professionals and technology fans of Internet of Things came together for 2 days in the Budapest CLC at the end of October to work together and realise and challenge their ideas on Raspberry PI devices. The idea challenge was organised jointly by IT Factory and Hackathon-in-a-Box.

6 teams participated in the event: ‪#‎meterreader, ‪#‎plush, ‪#‎intelligenshaz, ‪#‎livebulb, ‪#‎dabox and ‪#‎pihome. The team of EIT Digital Budapest Fiware IoT Open Innovation Lab took part in the competition by providing professional insight and mentors to all of the teams. The mentors gave presentations on how to develop an idea in a team, and provided insight into both the atmosphere of the start-up world and the basics of the business-oriented thinking. The curiosities of the IoT world were also presented through the teamwork and the mentors’ experience. The 2-days session ended with sales pitches, where all the teams presented their ideas to a jury of professionals and investors.

The winner team of the idea competition was Meterreader, who worked on developing a cloud-based technology to digitalize the numbers of analogue water meters through evaluating webcam pictures. The team of Dabox was the second best, who came up with a new, simple control panel for controlling smart homes. In this panel, the different controlling units and sensors can be matched like lego pieces, so setting up an optimal operation for the house becomes easier than ever. The third best was the team of Plush-i, who developed an interactive game using a plush teddy bear and IoT technology.
