On Wednesday 13th of April, EIT ICT Labs Helsinki organised Otaniemi Open 2011, a big event that gathered more than 300 persons from the Otaniemi research community and partner organisations, who networked and were presented to the latest research results. The demonstrations focused on smart spaces and how ICT is enabling services that have not been possible before.

CEO of EIT ICT Labs, Prof. Willem Jonker, explained how EIT ICT Labs will bring Europe to a new ICT age by bridging education, research and business in a unique way. The audience were also briefed on the future developments of the Health and Wellbeing, Smart Energy Systems and Smart Spaces Thematic Action Lines. The afternoon ended with a lively panel discussion on how to develop Otaniemi as a global hotspot, the importance of student and researcher mobility, the challenges of promoting entrepreneurship and creating a single European market.
