The EIT Digital Budapest Associate Partner Group (APG) organised a joint event for the ARISE Student Ambassadors and the winners of Sqore’s online competition on 7-9 December in Budapest to give them both a better understanding of the EIT Digital Education Programmes and an insight into the entrepreneurial mind-set of the start-ups coached by EIT Digital.

Nine online competition winners and four Ambassador students joined the three-days long event that took place in the Budapest CLC. On the first day, the winners received a detailed introduction of the EIT Digital and its Master School and Doctoral School Programmes, followed by an innovation game in which they had to develop their own innovative idea and present it in a pitch competition. It was a great opportunity for all participants to network, experience cultural differences, and develop their entrepreneurial mind-set and presentation skills.

The first day’s pitching contest was a prelude to the next day’s event. On 8 December, all participants joined <link news-events events article eit-digital-startups-arise-2015>the EIT Digital’s Start-up Pitching Day where 9 start-ups from the 6 partner innovation centres of EIT Digital’s ARISE Europe programme competed, and world-famous start-up trainers gave keynote speeches. Among others, Sabie Valner presented on start-up accelerator models and Patrick Vlaskovits on growth hacking.

The participants visited Ericsson Hungary, one of the main industrial partners of Budapest APG on the last day of the event. It was a great honour that our team was the first guest of the newly opened Ericsson Garage. This is the second innovation garage that was opened by Ericsson: the first was established in Kista, and the third will be opened in the Silicon Valley.

At the end, Fabio Pianesi, EIT Digital Research Director and Head of the ARISE Programme met the students and collected their feedback both on the joint event and on the ARISE Start-up conference. The event was followed by a meeting which concerned the future plans of the ARISE Student Ambassadors.

The event was very well received by the participants, and we hope that it will motivate them to get involved in further activities of the EIT Digital and the Master School.
