May 25, Brussels.  The European Parliament’s Committee responsible for Industry, Research, and Energy (ITRE) held a meeting with representatives from the EIT HQ and the CEOs of the three existing KIC’s at the European Parliament. EIT Acting Director Dr. Ronald de Bruin presented the current and future activities of EIT and gave a briefing of  the Strategic Innovation Agenda (SIA) to be submitted to the European Commission on May 31st.

The three KIC’s (Knowledge and Information Communities) then described their respective governance models, thematic strategies and expected impact.  ITRE plays a key part in the discussions in the areas of energy and research policy, space policy and the further development of ICT infrastructure. Thus EIT ICT Labs CEO Willem Jonker was very pleased to be able to deliver first hand information on the current state of affairs in the KIC and elaborate on future strategic priorities for the years to come.

For more information about the ITRE and how the European Parliament decisions on the Common Strategic Framwork for Research and Innovation (CSF) and the next Multiannual Financial Framework  (MFF) will effect the EIT, see the European Parliament website.
