The Internet of Things enables many important solutions with a high impact on people’s daily life. Portuguese start-up Sensefinity could prove this and won the 2015 Idea Challenge in Internet of Things held in Kista. Sensefinity connects the physical world with the user’s IT where one application is Perfect Cool - an out-of-the-box solution to prevent spoilage of perishable goods and increase the safety of pharmaceuticals and food. The user-friendly interface allows for fast access to set-temperatures, thresholds, alarms and reports.

The second prize winner Tractive from Austria showed the impact of IoT solutions for both people and pets. They have developed a gps-based pet tracking solution that allows pet owners to locate a pet at anytime, anywhere. If the beloved pet leaves a predefined area, the user gets notified immediately. Furthermore the Tractive apps integrate with social media to allow users to see their friends’ pets, share their pet photos and other pet related information.

Tracking was also the main feature of the third prize winner, French start-up TeepTrak. Their real-time performance tracking system contains a set of effective tools to monitor production effectiveness in real-time from anywhere in the world and improve in a fast and sustainable way.

Out of competition there was also a case marathon by Swedish IoT startups and a presentation of the student team from the EIT Digital Internet of Things Summer School. The Air-o-meter team shared their business idea, developed in only two weeks, but with a big potential, focusing on the smog situation in large Chinese cities and a solution to help parents find less polluted places for their children to play.

The finalists of the Idea Challenge in the area of Internet of Things got many opportunities to interact with the Stockholm ecosystem as part of their visit in early December. A social event at the hardware hug THINGS Stockholm with a mix of business developers, angel investors and also the IoT companies – large entreprises and startups that are engaged in or located at the hub.

The EIT Digital Idea Challenge in Internet of Things 2015 was combined with the Stockholm Innovation Days that showcased the latest innovation activities of EIT Digital in the field of the Future Networking Solutions. Highlights included standout keynotes by Alberto Torrón (Telefónica), Demed L´her (SAP) and an interactive exhibition area with demos from all innovation areas of EIT Digital and Swedish startups working with the EIT Digital Accelerator.
