Jill Lindstrom at the Internet of Things Idea Challenge launch

On Wednesday, June 18th, the Idea Challenge for Internet of Things was launched at the business event Internet of Everything for Real in Stockholm where representatives from all industries, public and private, working towards business or consumers gathered to look at new possibilities to connect their products or services and get inspiration, information or advice on how to go about it.

At the event, new initiatives and partnerships were disclosed and there was a case marathon showcasing the new business models in areas such as transportation, retail, health & well-being and citizen services.

Two EIT ICT Labs supported startups presented their services - Swedish Shortcut Labs with the Bluetooth-connected button called Flic that can handle any application with a single click and Finnish Innorange that provide retail business with customer data and analysis from connected devices. - Internet of things stands for the most exciting developments by far in the digital and mobile industry. Through the Idea Challenge, we can offer a number of new Internet of Things companies both financing and business development support, and through internationalization contacts and the EIT ICT Labs network of experts help them go to market, says Pär Hedberg, founder and CEO of STING (Stockholm Innovation & Growth).

The Idea Challenge for Internet of Things is organised by EIT ICT Labs in Stockholm in collaboration with the non-for profit business incubator STING and media partner mobil: Business.

At www.ideachallenge.eitictlabs.eu, startups and innovators can already now register online and ideas can be submitted from September 1st to 30th. The ten best entries will pitch their ideas to a jury consisting of experts in Internet of Things at the finals on November 13 in Stockholm, and fight for prize money of 40 000, 25 000 and 15 000 Euro.

The jury consists of the following Internet of Things-savvy people:

  • Marlène Sellebråten, editor and publisher of Mobil, Mobil Business och mobil.se
  • Jane Walerud, serial entrepreneur and angel investor, co-founder and CEO of Teclo Networks, has been involved in Lensway, Klarna, Midsummer and Tobii Technologies
  • Erik Ramberg, CEO, Springworks, experience in early enterprise and product development
  • Tarja Zu Dem Berge, CEO, ALMI Invest Småland och Öarna AB, experienced in evaluating companies in early stages
  • Henrik Abramowicz, Principal Researcher, Ericsson; Action Line Leader Future Networking Solutions, EIT ICT Labs
  • Gunnar Landgren, Node Director, EIT ICT Labs Stockholm

In addition to Internet of Things, the 2nd phase of the competition is also open for ideas in Smart Energy Systems, Urban Life & Mobility and Cyber ​​Security & Privacy. The four areas completed in the spring were Health & Wellbeing, Future Cloud, Smart Spaces, and Cyber ​​Physical Systems.

The winners will take home €40,000, €25,000 and €15,000 and receive coaching and free office space for six months to help realize their ideas, at one of the EIT ICT Labs offices in Europe.
