Fabrizio Antonelli, director of the Joint Open Lab "SKIL" Telecom Italia co-located in the Trento CLC, is one of the ten most promising young innovators selected by MIT's Technology Review for the prize "Innovators Under 35 Italy"in 2014.
The official announcement was made in Bologna by Professor Romano Prodi, President of the Scientific Committee of the MIT Technology Review Italy. The ceremony was attended also by Fulvio Faraci, Head of Telecom Italia Open Innovation Research.
Established in 1999 by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the "Innovators Under 35" recognises outstanding innovators under the age of 35 each year whose projects have proven to be innovative and concretely applicable to the market. In Italy "Innovators Under 35" is promoted by the MIT Technology Review and the University of Bologna. It aims to support best innovative ideas and projects of applied research developed in Italy, with relevant potential for the creation of technology based companies.
The winners are selected among large number of nominations by a committee made up of representatives from industry and academic world. Fabrizio Antonelli was selected because of the work being conducted at the Joint Open Lab "SKIL" of Telecom Italia, a centre of expertise for the development of innovative techniques for the analysis of large data sets conducted in collaboration with the University of Trento. Joint Open Lab "SKIL" is co-located to the EIT ICT Labs in Trento.
His research is about project CitySensing that investigates techniques to feel the pulse of our cities in real-time by fusing and making sense of city data information flows. It exploits semantic technologies, streaming databases, and visual data analytics. CitySensing is carried out by Telecom Italia and Politecnico di Milano and funded by the EIT ICT Labs.
The recognition of MIT emphasises the importance and excellence of the activities developed by Telecom Italia in the EIT ICT Labs ecosystem as part of a new model of relations with universities and new methods of research.
