The 4th European Innovation Summit - “Building Bridges-Creating Synergies”, took place in the European Parliament in Brussels, between the 9th and the 10th October.   

The event brings together researchers, practitioners, policy- and decision-makers with citizens in the European Parliament facilitating the formulation of clear, concrete and practical solutions to Europe’s innovation challenges. Innovation is vital for generating growth and sustainable jobs. However, in order for Europe to maximize its innovation output, bridges need to be built and synergies created. 

The Summit focused on identifying synergies between the EU Horizon 2020 research programme and the new European Regional Development policy, strengthening the dynamics between knowledge excellence and industrial leadership. This creates new opportunities for SME’s to materialize their proposals and market opportunities.

In connection to the event EIT ICT Labs organised a lunch on October 10th with selected MEPs to discuss the state-of-affairs and future developments in EIT ICT Labs and the EIT.  During the lunch, hosted by MEP Maria da Graça Carvalho, Willem Jonker CEO EIT ICT Labs was joined by Alexander Von Gabain, Chairman of the EIT Governing Board and the EIT ICT Labs Executive Steering Board members Magnus Madfors and Michel Cosnard, as well as several representatives of the industrial core partners of EIT ICT Labs.   

The outcome of the 4th European Innovation Summit will serve as a substantial reference point for  EU decision-makers when they decide on the Multiannual Financial Framework 2014-2020, the Horizon 2020 - Framework Programme for Research and Innovation, the Programme for the competitiveness of enterprises and SMEs (COSME) 2014-2020, the Strategic Innovation Agenda for the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT), the future Cohesion policy and all the legislations that complete the puzzle of the EU Innovation policies.
