Academy Cube launched at CeBIT 2013

Neelie Kroes, European Commissioner for the Digital Agenda, and Jim Snabe, SAP's Co-CEO, launched the Academy Cube at CeBIT 2013. This new e-learning platform will help university graduates in sciences, technology, engineering and mathematics get jobs, provide high-tech companies with the skilled workers they need, help bridge the skills gap, and help fight unemployment in Europe.

Young talent who is just starting out on their careers and those looking for work will be able to use the platform to take professional development courses in IT and engineering so they can better position themselves on the European job market. Academy Cube will first focus on university graduates in southern European countries. It will also provide information about career options in the IT sector in Germany and Europe, and contain job postings.

Among Academy Cube's founders are partners in the ICT and manufacturing sectors, who will continue to add new content. Partners to date are: Festo Didactic GmbH & Co.KG, the social network LinkedIn, Microsoft Deutschland GmbH, Robert Bosch GmbH, Software AG, ThyssenKrupp AG, the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI), the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT ICT Labs), the German Association for Information Technology, Telecommunications and New Media (BITKOM e.V.), Gesellschaft für Informatik e.V. and the University of Duisburg-Essen.

Academy Cube was launched at a press conference at CeBIT. The speakers Neelie Kroes and Jim Snabe were joined by Prof. Dr. Heimo Adelsberger, chair of information management at Duisburg-Essen University, Dr. Marianne Janik, Senior Director Public Sector of Microsoft Germany GmbH, Prof. Dr. Willem Jonker, CEO EIT ICT Labs,Dr. Winfried Moser, Senior Vice President Business Development of Bosch Software Innovations GmbH andJürgen Powik, Senior Director University Relations Software AG.
