CEO Dermal Choices, Magdalena Scheijgrond

The Dutch startup Dermal Choices, coached by EIT Digital’s Business Accelerator, was one of the winners of  ICT2B Venture Academy that took place in the Chalkidiki, Greece, June 22-24, 2015. 

The ICT2B Venture Academy is an EU initiative to accelerate the development of early stage startups. Thirteen teams lined up for a panel of experts that selected the best team which was named "ICT2B Champion" of the Year 2015.

The winning teams were: 
1st place: A-WARE, Deployment of IT security & privacy measures
2nd place: Dermal Choices, E-platform for dermal scanning and advice 
3rd place: Stroke Aid, mobile application that aids stroke patients’ early-recovery process

The inaugural event of the ICT2B initiative (‘Innovation Runway’), was organised at the Lufthansa Training and Conference Centre in Frankfurt, last February. The teams that were shaped at the Innovation Runway Event and selected to grow further from idea to business were: Aftermarket, A-Ware, Cassandra, DeDAvE, Foodie-Doo, ICD, I Pronounce, One, Stratum and Stroke Aid. These teams were challenged to follow the 3-day ICT2B Venture Academy in Greece. Next to these teams, the organisation added 3 wildcard projects and Dermal Choices was one of them.

What is ICT2Business

ICT 2 Business is an EU-funded networking platform to bring together students and ICT researcher with one main aim and that is to accelerate the growth of startups. Europe is concerned that it in competition with American and Asian ICT corporations it will become irrevocably dependent - and so has for some time been developing corresponding countermeasures. One of these is called the ICT2B (Information and Communication Technologies to Business), which is funded by the EU DG Connect. The funding money supported measures that bring together talented young researchers with entrepreneurial talent from all over Europe.

ICT 2 B Venture Academy 

The ICT 2 B Venture Academy is an intense 3-days group-work on the Business idea of each team with the support of experienced mentors, in order to develop the ideas into business concepts. It offers a workshop on Intellectual Property which raised and analysed the issues of protection of knowledge during the development of a company. Finally all the teams are challenged to pitch in front of an audience that included experts, Business Angels and VCs.

ICT 2 Business is managed under the auspices of the Fraunhofer IOSB in Karlsruhe. Jointly with the SEERC in Greece and the Universities of Sheffield (UK), Twente (NL) and the Technion in Israel
