A five-memer, all-women team has won T-Labs' and EIT ICT Labs' special prize in The Other Hackathon competition. The teams entry is an interactive website for analyzing personal and municipal energy consumption levels. Entitled "What's my carbon", it is designed to be useful for consumers and municipal administrators alike.
"The Other Hackathon", an event sponsored by the Berlin Geekettes, SAP, T-Labs and EIT ICT Labs and aimed especially at women, took place in Potsdam in early July and was attended by about 50 active participants.
"This event is designed especially to help women innovators and techies, who sometimes get a little drowned out at the usual male-dominated events," explained Christian Huder, Smart Energy expert at T-Labs. The participants, all female, and including students, developers, designers and SAP experts, applied their creativity and innovation to a number of challenges linked to the theme Digital City.
The "What’s my Carbon" entry won the special prize sponsored by T-Labs and EIT ICT Labs: all five women get to attend the EIT ICT Labs Smart Energy Systems Summer School this coming August in Karlsruhe and Stockholm. Dr. Heiko Lehmann, who heads up the Smart Energy area at T-Labs and EIT ICT Labs, had the pleasure of serving on the jury and presenting the prize.
