The High Tech Campus, where the EIT Digital Eindhoven Co-location Centre is based, is a hub for disruptive innovations. It has also proved to be a fruitful environment for start-ups – even more so from next month when a permanent VC desk will be located here. So, perhaps not surprisingly, there is growing interest amongst start-ups to become part of the EIT Digital Eindhoven ecosystem. One of them is Wellmo... This Finnish start-up, supported by EIT Digital in Helsinki, was launched in the Netherlands, November 17th. Let’s take a closer look.

What offers Wellmo?

Wellmo offers a holistic, configurable and ready-to-go cloud-based solution that enables individuals to take charge of their own health with the support of professionals. It is a one-stop mobile platform for preventive digital health programmes. Using Wellmo, occupational health organisations, insurance companies and service providers in health and wellbeing, can develop tailor made solutions tuned to their respective target groups.

Wellmo and the Dutch market

Wellmo has international ambitions and is making good use of the EIT Digital network for scaling up their business and expanding into new European markets - currently focused on the Netherlands. Since locating in the Netherlands, the Wellmo team has been working hard – reflected in reaching the finals of the Health App Award (initiative Nictiz and Mobile Doctors initiative) and the Accenture Innovation Awards and successfully building their customer portfolio in the Netherlands.

To strengthen early relationships with launching customers and to engage with potential leads, a launch was organised, in collaboration with EIT Digital Eindhoven. Invited were press, experts, occupational health organisation, insurance companies and HR managers. The audience was invited to come and see what Wellmo is all about and to hear how it’s launching customer, occupational health organisation ‘Arbo Unie’, implemented the Wellmo platform to meet the needs of their customers.

In their blog ‘Successful launch of Wellmo in the Netherlands’, Wellmo said :“One hundred and fifty cups of coffee, 55 appointments, 200 handshakes and 63 newly acquired LinkedIn connections turned out to be very fruitful. The top ten players in the occupational health industry plus most of the health insurance companies in Holland saw great potential in the services Wellmo had to offer. A solid foundation is in place. Now it’s time to build on this foundation, together with our customers.”

Keep the working force fit and vital

The Wellmo launch event started with a welcome and introduction on Wellmo by Marc Wullings, Country Manager, followed by Filip Coenen presenting EIT Digital accelerator. Thereafter Wellmo’s CEO Jaakko Olkkonen shed light on ‘Wellmo: The future of Health Services’ and its cooperation with Finnish insurance company Lahi Tapiola and occupational health service provider Heltti. After Jaako Olkkonen, Josephine van Eeden, Development Manager at ArboUnie took the floor. She talked about the importance of having a shared vision with their suppliers and the co-creation of the ‘Polshoogte‘ programme, an employer vitality programme, which Arbo Unie clients use wearables which feed in information to the Wellmo platform

Josephine also stated: “This new service is a great way to support our customers with innovative occupational health solutions with focus on preventative care. I am looking forward to continue our cooperation with Wellmo.”
Wellmo tackles stress in collaboration with TNO

The Wellmo event took place during Dutch national “Stress Week" organised to raise awareness of the causes and impacts of stress in the working environment. Therefore it was a perfect timing to spread the news that the Dutch knowledge centre TNO, an EIT Digital partner, and Wellmo started a collaboration by adding the TNO Stresscoach 2.0 to the Wellmo platform. They will further develop the Stresscoach and make it tailored for their users. To highlight this valuable addition, Gerard Beumer – TNO Business Developer, gave an explanation to the audience.
