EIT ICT Labs‘ Action Line Smart Energy Systems is proud to have facilitated the publication of the English version of a high-profile study in the emergent field of E-Energy: Future Energy GridMigration to the Internet of Energy.

This key publication by the German National Academy of Science and Engineering (acatech) had previously only existed in German and, thanks to EIT ICT Labs’ involvement, is now available for an international audience for the first time.

Accompanied by much international attention, the German government has decided to opt out of nuclear energy by 2022 and rapidly switch to energy supply based on renewable energies such as wind and solar power. 

These renewable energies can only be integrated into the electricity system on a large scale if the grid infrastructure and storage capacities are upgraded. Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is essential for the future power supply. Energy technology and ICT merge together in a so-called "smart grid" and contribute to the efficient use of Germany's energy resources.
