In his speech, upon receiption of the price, Prof. Peter Apers addressed the importance of ICT for society. He mentioned: "The impact of ICT on society is increasing, if ICT is not functioning properly, we will all be effected. Consider failures in the Dutch emergency number 112, the interference last winter with the Dutch rail way or problems around internet banking. ICT companies are highly responsible for the quality of our society. Therefore I challenge the companies to work with universities to build better ICT. "

The ICT Personality Award is an annual recognition for those who have distinguished themselves in the Dutch ICT sector over the past year. The prize this year has been awarded for the thirteenth time by ICT Office. Prof. Apers and Prof. Smeulders receive the prize for their contribution to the ICT roadmap for the Netherlands.
