Winner of Meet the Demo Award 2015

The winner of the 'Meet the Demo Award' appeared to be Dr. Hannes Mühleisen. Dr. Hannes Mühleisen is a computer scientist based in Amsterdam and researcher at CWI (Centrum Wiskunde & Informatica). His interest is in distributed and large-scale data analysis, in particular distributed queries. The demo he showed during the ICT.OPEN2015 was on 'rapidly visualizing Wikipedia page views'.

The winning demo is about the increasing amount of data and the effectiveness of visualization for interpreting the meaning of these data. With the developed technique they can greatly speed up the statistical processing of large amounts of data and rapidly visualize the statistical results. The demo showed how the interest in a Wikipedia page changes over time. A user can select any set of pages to compare, and also find pages with similar interest over time. This can for example be used to judge interest in certain topics from society in general.

With this we would like to congratulate Dr. Hannes Mühleisen with his winning demo!
