The Round Table on Big Data for Smart Energy Systems took place in Trento CLC on December 4th. The objective was to identify problems and opportunities arising from the adoption of big data technologies to the energy services and systems.

So called "smart grids" will generate enormous amount of data in the future. On the one hand, these data can help to improve energy efficiency. On the other hand, the management of this amount of data goes beyond the traditional skills and the core business of companies in the energy sector. The round-table brought together major national players in the energy sector and ICT sector in order to develop synergies and new opportunities of innovation and business.

EIT ICT Labs has played a key role in attracting major players at local and national level. It helped to strengthen the cooperation between ICT companies and ones representing energy sector.
