UNIZO-Limburg has named Ugentec, an EIT Digital coached scaleup, as Most Promising small and medium enterprise (SME) in Limburg in Belgium. With this accolade, Ugentec is now also in the running to be voted the Most Promising company in the whole of Belgium.
UNIZO is Belgiums biggest employers organisation and represents the entrepreneurs of the region Limburg. "This prize carries a lot of prestige for our entrepreneurs. It is an acknowledgement of the good work the selected SME's have done, " says Sergio Destino from UNIZO Limburg.
"The prize for Most promising SME goes to an entrepreneur with outstanding results and has the potential to become an anchor of the local economy", adds Bart Lodewyckx, managing director of UNIZO Limburg on the website MadeinLimburg. "With Ugentec we have a company that perfectly fits that profile."
Ugentec's CEO Wouter Uten says: "It's amazing to receive yet another recognition of our efforts. We wouldn't have been where we are now without the support of several parties, including EIT Digital, the continued support & relevant advice they have given us is a major factor in winning this award."
The Belgian bioinformatics company develops software to analyze DNA data, particularly for PCR tests. For laboratories, it prevents human errors and makes work more efficient. Ugentec has won various decorations as a scaleup.
Ugentec will also be in the running to be named the Most Promising SME of the whole of Belgium. Every two years, UNIZO regional award winners gather at a national level at an event where a SME Laureate is awarded to a SME who distinguishes itself on one of a number of categories linked to important business operations, like international entrepreneurship, entrepreneurial spirit and innovation. A prize will also be given to the most promising SME at the event which this year is being held on November 17, "the Day of the Entrepreneur".
