It is known that cloud computing is an enabler for advanced analytics with big data. However, exploitation of big data technologies in cloud is not easy for many companies, especially SMEs. They struggle to find a convenient and affordable approach to exploit cloud and big data technologies to the benefit of their business. Also concerns, like lack of security and mistrust against cloud services, slow down the adoption of these technologies, having significant impact on the European big data and cloud business potential.

Often customers do not have a clear picture of how big data solutions are being applied in the cloud environment. Provisioning of computational resources for big data applications is restricted to a reduced set of cloud providers, which are often not interoperable. In addition, big data service and technology providers customize Big Data solutions to each particular business case. As a result, a growing complexity in the management of underlying infrastructure quickly arises, and providers face big data workflows with radically different behavioural and scalability patterns. This adds even more obstacles to the overall big data exploitation in business.

MCloudDaaS or Multi-Cloud Data Analytics as a Service tackles specifically these issues by providing a flexible, secure and on-demand hybrid cloud platform for big data analytics offering innovative functionalities with regards to security, scalability and fault-tolerance.

To demonstrate practical approaches on how to use the power and flexibility of MCloudDaaS, an event "Big Data Analytics & Multi-Cloud - Extending the benefits of Big Data Analytics by using Multi-Cloud environments" was organised at the EIT Digital Co-location centre on September 28 in Madrid.

ATOS and British Telecom presented use cases developed on MCloudDaaS platform to help to understand innovative approaches to embark on digital transformation plans based on Big Data and Cloud technologies. It was a good opportunity for SMEs, startups and companies in the IT landscape, or IT departments from any other kind of enterprise, interested in enabling technologies and innovative implementations in Big Data.

The business opportunities offered by MCloudDaaS platform will be presented also at the BDVA Valencia Summit 2016 that takes place in Spain from November 29 - December 2.

MCloudDaaS is an innovation activity of EIT Digital - Digital Infrastructure action line. Activity Partners are Atos, British Telecom, Consiglio Nazionale delle Richerche, and Technical University of Berlin.
