Milan Satellite strengthens the Italian Node and offers an attractive location to all EIT Digital partners.
Milan is the second largest urban hub in Italy with over 4 million inhabitants in the metropolitan area.
Milan is considered to be a fertile ground for start-ups due to its standing as a port of entry to Italy and its strong university presence. Domestic and international ICT companies have premises in Milan contributing to the evolution of a vibrant ecosystem. It hosts the largest student population in technical disciplines.
Milan is the venue of the Universal EXPO 2015, which attracts a considerable amount of investment transforming the city into an ideal experiment and showcase arena for pioneering projects, with ICT being a key enabler for all innovation activities. The activities and investments linked to EXPO 2015 will leave a footprint in the city that will outlive the event itself and will keep Milan at the forefront of urban life experimentation and innovation.
Satellite in Milan is active in research driven innovation and will focus on activities addressed by EIT Digital in the fields of Urban Life and Mobility, Smart Spaces, and Future Cloud in the context of Universal EXPO 2015.
Milan is also the largest Italian hub for technical education through Politecnico di Milano and offers top-level incubator for start-ups at PoliHub (empowered by Politecnico di Milano).
Several EIT Digital Italy Partners have premises in Milan (CEFRIEL, Engineering, Politecnico di Milano, Reply, ST Microelectronics, Telecom Italia) and some are co-located in the Satellite.
Satellite Co-Location Centre
The Satellite Co-Location Centre in Milan is a physical co-working venue within the premises at our partner CEFRIEL.
The Satellite premises are equipped with all the standard EIT Digital communications facilities, meeting rooms and space to accommodate research and innovation activities.

Arrival by public transport
CEFRIEL can be easily reached by urban public transport, both by the underground (MM) lines and the surface transport network:
- By underground green line: 5 minutes walking from MM "Piola – Politecnico di Milano"
- By bus: 5 minutes walking from 90-91 lines (bus stop "Piola")
Bike-sharing service is also available: "BikeMi" website.
Arrival by car
CEFRIEL is located in the northeast area of the city, near "circovallazione (ring road) 90-91".
To reach CEFRIEL by car, take the "Tangenziale Est" (Eastern highway). The nearest exits are "Forlanini" (coming from southwards) and "Lambrate" (coming from northwards).
From both exits, it is approximately a 15 minute drive to get to Milan Satellite Co-Location Centre, depending on the traffic conditions.

Arrival by train
Milan is a main node of Italian High Speed Trains ("Alta Velocità")
"Milano Centrale" and "Milano Garibaldi" are the main stations that are served by High Speed Trains and directly connected with Milan’s underground lines.
Milano Centrale is the closest railway station to reach CEFRIEL.
Arriving at Milano Centrale Railway Station, take the underground green line heading towards "Gessate-Cologno", get off at "Piola – Politecnico di Milano" (about 5 minutes travel, only 3 stops) and you can reach CEFRIEL on foot in about 5 minutes. By taxi: about 10 minutes and 15 €.
